Eun Ha Hwang
Lecturer
My life journey as an educator has taken me across the United States, Europe, and Asia, where I have taught Korean language in diverse cultural and educational settings. At Dartmouth College, I teach the first-year Korean language sequence (KOR 1–3) and continue to explore how language learning shapes learners' identity, experience, and multiliteracies practices.
My recent book, Multilingual and Identity (2022), explores how Korean Studies students in Europe negotiate their identities through learning Korean, framed by Bakhtin's dialogism. Building on this work, I have been particularly interested in how digital tools, community-based language learning, and multiliteracies approaches can enrich Korean language education and foster inclusive classrooms.
Previously, I taught at Wellesley College—where I also served as Korean language coordinator—Vanderbilt University, Leiden University in the Netherlands, and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, as well as in heritage language programs in the U.S. and Europe. These experiences have deepened my understanding of how language, culture, and identity intersect in global learning contexts.
As a teacher, I strive to support students in building confidence in expressing themselves in Korean and seek to create an environment where language learning becomes a meaningful part of their personal and intercultural growth. Outside of teaching, I enjoy baking, oil painting, listening to classical music, spending time with my family, and traveling.
