José Manuel del Pino is Professor of Spanish and the Patricia F. and William B. Hale 1944 Professor in the Arts and Sciences at the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. His field of specialization is modern and contemporary literature and culture of Spain. He obtained his 'Licenciatura' in Hispanic Philology from Universidad de Málaga in 1980 and his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1992. His main area of research is the Spanish avant-garde of the 1920s and 30s, a topic on which he has published the books Montajes y fragmentos: una aproximación a la narrativa española de van­guardia (Amsterdam-Atlanta, GA: Rodopi, 1995), and Del tren al aeroplano: ensayos sobre la vanguardia española. (Boulder, CO: Society of Spanish and Spanish American Studies, 2004).
