Visiting Scholar

Laura Jagelková seeks to inspire children from poor backgrounds to become successful. She comes from a village nestled between the mountains, where different Slavic cultures and languages intermingle. This led her to study Slavic languages and cultures within ethnolinguistics at the Slovak Academy of Sciences. She is currently a PhD candidate. Her research projects, supported by the Fulbright Schuman Program at Dartmouth College, the DAAD Program at the University of Cologne, and the Institut français at the Sorbonne Centre for Linguistics, examine the mutual intelligibility of West and South Slavic languages. As a teacher of Slovak, Laura is excited about the impacts of this research on language teaching, allowing for improved communication between EU citizens.
