Yu-Chun Huang
Lecturer
With a background in architecture and digital design, my research explores the integration of computational technologies—including CAD, VR, AR, Tangible User Interfaces (TUIs), and Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI)—into design-related fields, particularly in spatial and architectural contexts. My work is driven by the belief that technology should enhance, rather than complicate, our daily lives. Instead of seeking novel or extravagant ways to interact with the virtual world, I focus on creating intuitive, seamless connections between people and their environments—both digital and physical.
For over 20 years, I have been dedicated to the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), pushing the boundaries of architecture, emerging technology, and interactive design. I have led as a Principal Investigator (PI) on multidisciplinary projects that bridge architecture, HCI, and computational design. These include VR retail experiences, immersive Smithsonian exhibitions, future home design and BCI-driven smart spaces.
Most recently, my project ARID: Augmented Reality Interior Design received the iF Design Award, recognizing its innovation in integrating AR into spatial design. By merging architecture, HCI, and immersive technologies, my goal is to craft intelligent, interactive environments that foster more natural, sustainable, and meaningful human experiences.
